I have been in the Real Estate industry since 1987. Born in Havana Cuba, I moved to the United States at age 7 in July of 1961.
I remember passing through Kentucky on our way to Weston, West Virginia in 1962 and seeing all the horses, the pretty plank fences and the gently rolling hills and saying to my mother... "This is where I want to live for the rest of my life!" Little did I know that 2 years later in 1964, my dad would take a position in Danville, Kentucky.
I think of Danville as my hometown, because that is where I did most of my growing up. My family lived in Danville for 10 years. I was on the Tennis Team and the yearbook staff among other clubs. I started at UK in 1972 so I stayed in Lexington when my parents moved back to warmer weather, Gainesville, Florida in 1974.
I stayed in Lexington after graduating from UK in 1976 and took a teaching position with Fayette County Schools the next year at Leestown Junior High School aka Leestown Middle School from August of 1977 until June of 1990.
I began my career as a Realtor in March 1987. My husband and I and our 4 year old son put our house on the market in 1986. We had the worst real estate experience ever. Eventually our house sold with a 2nd Realtor. I thought to myself, I can do better for people than this first guy did for us. So this experience is what got me into the real estate business. My mother always told me that I would be good at Real Estate. Her Dad was a Real Estate Broker in Havana Cuba and so was her youngest brother, my Uncle Eddie. So I guess I come by it naturally!
When my daughter was born in 1989, I decided to quit teaching and become a "stay and work from home mom" as well as a full time Realtor. I did not realize how quickly I would get busy. I'm fortunate that I've been a top producer for every company with which I have been affiliated.
Our household is composed of my husband and I, 2(almost grown)kids, my mother, 2 dogs, several fish and a horse that lives at Sunburst Farm.
In August 2005, 11 colleagues and I decided that it was time to start our own Real Estate company and we invested in Keller Williams Bluegrass Realty.
Marketing and Client System Manager, Kathy Pickett joined Team Gnas in August 2006. Kathy is an experienced real estate Office Manager and has listing and sales experience. Kathy is responsible for entering listings into the MLS, Advertising, making changes to your listings and keeping our office running smoothly.
